What's New?
Friday, August 31, 1998 - Completion date! Game production is over as planned, but the game isn't up to par (as planned). However, deadlines are deadlines. There are a few main reasons this game isn't as -complete- as it should be. #1. I received an overwhelming number of complaints about Sailor Moon that I would have rather not heard. I did this project in order to gain experience programming in an unfamiliar environment in terms of staff. I know nothing about Sailor Moon, and I've only watched two of their North American TV shows. So I don't know why I keep getting e-mail complaining that "Sailor Moon is a girl's show" - I responded: "So what?" And #2. Low resources. Everyone seemed to go on summer vacation and I didn't get as much feedback as I wanted to.
So the game is done. And what can you play? Nothing in fact. You can play around with the over world engine that I last posted, but I could not go any further without art. I -did- attempt to make stick-figure sailor senshi fighting and it worked fine but it was so pathetic I decided not to show anyone unless I got the real artwork in. Well, I never got the real artwork in. So as far as battle- there isn't any.
Story? None. Graphics? All done by me. Maps? All done by me. Music? Ripped from the net. Sound? Ripped from the net. Not much else to say about this game.
So anyways, thanks to the remaining staff who have been loyal up to this point. Thanks to all the support I received in form of e-mail and a lot of thanks go to the players of this RPG. I am also going to work now, so I am going to get paid for the first time. I am also starting college in the fall. This means that I won't be programming any more unless it has something to do with my homework assignments.
It's been awesome, and maybe someday we'll meet again! I hope you had fun, despite our small finish. And that was the whole point of this project- to have fun in the process of making an RPG.
Sincerely,
Takahiro C. H. (takahiro@california.com)
Monday, July 6, 1998 - Version 1.2 of the Overworld Engine is ready to be tested. Now you can talk to a guy in the little house who wants to sell you something. Also, you can move over to the next maps on the left and right side. It's really starting to feel like an overworld now. Next up, battle engine. =) Oh yeah, and by the way, post something on the message board already!! I don't care if it's just a "hello" - let me know someone is alive out there... Hehehe. Our web site has also won an award (#1 site in KatsTinySMRing)! Credit goes to the -entire- project staff, keep it up!
Saturday, July 4, 1998 - Still working on the engine. I finished version 1.1 of the Overworld Engine, tell me how it goes (you can actually enter the little house in this version). Oh, and if you noticed- the site has changed to include frames. Is that good or bad? Give me your opinion on the message board!
Friday, July 3, 1998 - I'm working on the overworld engine now, but it is going to take a lot of time. Don't worry if I miss a couple web page updates, I'm still here. Everything is pretty much going as planned. I also took a break from coding to draw some goofy tiles (look at the city tiles below). Some sidewalk tile, roads, and an arcade. I don't know if we're going to use them, but if nobody submits anything better- we'll be forced to. =) Also I might be putting up the source code. I will gladly distribute the source, but I don't know if I can handle a collaborative programming effort at the time being (with so many things to do already). I will keep the staff updated as we move along. Alright, back to work! Good luck y'all.
Thursday, July 2, 1998 - I've extended the deadlines to accomodate for the new people. However, July 31 is the day. =) This game is going to be finished, whether or not we have great art or not. Also, a note to voice actors and storyline writers: please be patient while the database is being made and I get more confirmations on artwork. Oh, and I've opened up a discussion message board! Go and try it! (see top of page for link)
Wednesday, July 1, 1998 - Happy New Month everybody! I joined a couple rings to see if we can get others interested in this project (especially tile/sprite artists!). I'll be programming the rest of the day- I'm really starting to worry about tile artists (are we going to have any graphics in this game? hehe).
Monday, June 29, 1998 - Sorry about the skip in the update, but I was programming full time! I made major changes to the source code, converting everything to C++ and now is organized and optimized as heck. Also, a new more efficient version of the map editor is now available. Finally, I wrote an example program that will demonstrate the use of menus in the RPG. For you Final Fantasy fans, it will be familiar *smile*. The demonstration program will eventually become the overworld engine (main map engine). After that is complete, only the battle engine remains. That's it for now, keep drawing and making music staff!
Saturday, June 27, 1998 - Received MANY midi files from Kylite! Thanks! Your help is much appreciated in this project! Still looking for new members. Also, the development schedule has been updated with deadlines to help you guys manage your time and get organized. Oh, and tell your friends about Project: SMRPG - maybe they'll join us! New - Voice actors? E-mail me a .WAV of your voice, and make sure you "act"!
Friday, June 26, 1998 - Map editor update! Version 1.3 has been posted. Fixed interference bugs, plus now you can decide pass/nopass with the F7 key. Also, introducing the SMRPG Walk Through Map Test program, version 1.0. Now you can take a walk through your map, to see if the tiles are where you want them to be! Also, has midi music to listen to while you walk! Still waiting on art contributions. Few more story line writers and MIDI searchers recruited. Finally, don't forget to read the DISCLAIMER before using any of the programs.
Thursday, June 25, 1998 - No contributions from any artists yet. Where is everyone? Few bugs being worked out of game map editor, will start game engine production soon. Possible MIDI composers/WAV makers on deck. Also, few example maps with the map editor are posted to give an idea at what the tiles will end up doing. To the staff: If things keep going the way they are, then I will end up making the entire game myself! Help, please.
Wednesday, June 24, 1998 - New Sprite Graphics (See the Sailor Senshi!) Also, game hardware test software has been released. Game map editor is complete! Download version 1.2 now! More artists recruited, as well as a few beta testers and to-be-story-writers.
Tuesday, June 23, 1998 - We've started!
